Pretoria - Family and friends of murder accused Nico Venter, 21, embraced after he was released on R10 000 bail in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Venter, a project manager at the Carousel Casino in the North West, was accused of the murder of 17-year-old Anika Smit who was found dead at her father's Theresapark home in Pretoria North in March.
She had been raped, her throat was slit and her hands were hacked off.
Police had since refused to confirm whether her hands had been found.
Venter, dressed in a black suit with a black tie and shirt, exhaled in relief when the magistrate granted him bail.
He told the court through his attorney that he was a first-time offender and had no intention of leaving the country and had co-operated with the investigator in the case.
