Russell Hanly today, Tuesday, 21 October 2008, stepped down as CEO of after eight years with Media24. Handing over the reins to JP Farinha and commenting on his future plans, Hanly said, “I'm looking forward to getting back to my farming roots; something that I've been planning to do for a while."
Under Hanly's leadership, Media24 was established as South Africa's leading digital publisher, including, the country's most visited network of websites.
Previously CTO and COO of, ‘youthful veteran of South Africa's Internet space' Farinha joined in April 2006. He has been GM of MWeb Studios and MD of, as well as working with various online ventures, including Metropolis Transactive and US-based VerticalNet. He is a founding member of the Online Publishers Association (OPA) and has served on its executive committee since the organisation's inception.
